Zomato in a move to dispel all doubts has posted on X that they have delisted all such restaurants from their platform.
The issue gained weight after a post on Reddit highlighted such restaurants in Chandigarh offering single dishes with bizarre names like "Citrus Punch," "Naughty Strawberry," and "Blue Adventure," at unimaginable prices.
There were speculations amongst netizens that these might be fronts for drug dealers and other illegal activities.
There were instances wherein users tried placing orders with such restaurants only to get rejected and those restaurants stopped accepting orders later.
"As per our policy, all restaurants listed on Zomato need to have a FSSAI license and we also actively block items such as alcohol, cigarettes/cigars/vapes from being listed on our platform. The firm further confirmed that they have strengthened their fraud checks to proactively identify such cases to avoid similar incidents in the future.
