When Will Tata Semiconductor Plant In Assam Get Completed? Govt Shares Update

Tata Semiconductor Plant: The Ministry of Electronics and IT has announced that India’s first major semiconductor manufacturing facility, being established by Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd in Morigaon, Assam, is set to be completed by mid-2025. 

“Designed to cater to essential sectors such as automotive, electric vehicles, telecommunications, and consumer electronics, this facility is projected for completion by mid-2025,” the ministry stated in the official release. 

The Morigaon semiconductor facility is part of a wider network of government-backed projects aimed at boosting India’s semiconductor production capabilities. 

Semicon set to become $109 billion market by 2030

According to the report shared by the ministry, the semiconductor market in the country currently stands at nearly $38 billion with projections for growth to $109 billion by 2030.

“With an investment of Rs. 27,000 crore, the Morigaon facility is expected to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips per day, employing advanced packaging technologies like flip chip and Integrated System in Package (ISIP),” the ministry shared.  

Launched in 2021 with a financial outlay of Rs 76,000 crore, the Semicon India program is structured to promote the domestic semiconductor industry through incentives and strategic partnerships.

Apart from Morigaon, the government has also approved the establishment of semiconductor units in Dholera, Gujarat, by Tata Electronics and CG Power in Sanand, Gujarat. Additionally, Kaynes Semicon Pvt Ltd was approved to set up a unit in Sanand as well.
