Edelweiss’ Radhika Gupta Sums Up Budget 2025 In Just One Word; And That Is...
Edelweiss's Radhika Gupta, described the past week as a rollercoaster for markets, with midcaps plunging before a Budget tax cut turned the tide.

The past week saw high volatility in the stock markets, with midcap stocks facing a sharp decline on Budget Day. However, a key tax cut in the Union Budget helped revive market sentiment.
Radhika Gupta, CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Fund, captured the week’s turbulence in a poetic social media post:
"Markets went wild, midcaps did a dive, Deepseek and AI wars have come alive, Trump's antics only added to the grey. Till a Budget tax cut saved the day, The week is over. We survive. And now, happy weekend."
Through her post, Gupta highlighted the major factors that influenced market movements:
Market Volatility: Midcaps took a hit, reflecting investor nervousness ahead of the Budget.
AI Competition: The launch of DeepSeek, a new AI tool from China, intensified competition between OpenAI, Google, and other tech giants.
Global Uncertainty: Political developments, including former U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest policy announcements, added to market jitters.
Budget Relief: The tax cut played a crucial role in stabilizing sentiment by putting more money in people’s hands.
‘Consumption Is the Word of the Day’: Gupta on Budget Impact
Beyond the market reaction, Gupta emphasized the Budget’s strong focus on boosting consumption. She praised the government’s decision to raise the income tax exemption limit from ₹7.5 lakh to ₹12 lakh, calling it a significant and necessary step.
"CONSUMPTION is the word of the day! Heard a lot of chatter in the morning about what could possibly be done in the budget given the economic backdrop and global turmoil. I think it's a budget that addresses the needs of the here and now—putting money into the hands of people to go out and consume. And 7.5 to 12L as exemption is a bold, not incremental move. Well done!" she wrote.
With the Budget now in play, all eyes will be on how markets and consumer trends evolve in the coming months.
