The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has rolled out a new functionality for biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification.

The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has rolled out a new functionality for biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification. The update will be effective from January 28, 2025 and applies to GST registration applicants in Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh.
This is an initiative which is part of the ongoing efforts by GSTN to enhance the security and efficiency of the GST registration process, ensuring that applicants' identities are accurately verified.
Key Features
This process does not just involve Aadhaar-based identity verification but also the physical verification of the documents submitted by the applicant during the registration process. In addition to verifying the Aadhaar details, applicants will be required to provide a photograph, ensuring a more secure and accurate process for authentication.
How Will The New System Work?
The new system is designed to operate in two phases. initially, after submitting the GST registration application through Form GST REG-01, applicants will receive one of two links via email:
1. OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication Link: through this link, applicants can proceed with the existing Aadhaar-based authentication process using OTP.
2. Appointment Booking Link: Through this link, applicants will be prompted to book an appointment for biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification at a designated GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK).
