Maharashtra MSRTC Bus: Fares Hiked by 14.95%; Mumbai Auto and Taxi Rates Also Revised
Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has implemented a 14.95% fare hike, affecting millions of daily commuters.

Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has rolled out a significant fare hike of 14.95%, effective immediately, impacting its extensive network of 15,000 buses that transport approximately 55 lakh passengers daily.
This decision follows approval by the Hakim Committee, aimed at addressing operational costs and maintaining service standards.
Impact on Commuters
Passengers travelling on MSRTC buses across all routes will now face increased fares, reflecting the rising operational expenses faced by the corporation. This hike is expected to influence daily commuters and travellers reliant on the state's public transport system, which is one of the largest in India.
Transport Adjustments in Mumbai
Simultaneously, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) has sanctioned a base fare increase of Rs 3 for both auto-rickshaws and black-and-yellow taxis. This adjustment raises auto-rickshaw fares from Rs 23 to Rs 26, and taxi fares from Rs 28 to Rs 31.
Western Railway Jumbo Block
In addition to these fare revisions, Western Railway has scheduled a three-day jumbo block from January 24th to 26th for bridge construction between Bandra and Mahim. This temporary disruption is set to affect several long-distance trains, including the rescheduling of prominent services like the Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express and Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Gujarat Superfast Express.
Future Implications
Commuters are advised to plan their journeys considering the adjusted fares and potential delays due to the ongoing railway construction. MSRTC and Mumbai transport authorities are in the process of updating fare meters and recalibrating systems to implement these changes effectively.
