Greater Noida: The Noida International Airport Limited begins its second phase of testing tomorrow on November 15, 2024. This the second major airport in the national capital region.

Where Does The Jewar Story Begin?

India's civil aviation industry has been growing rapidly, with domestic and international passenger traffic increasing multifold in the recent years. India is the world's fastest growing and third largest aviation market.

India has had a 15% year-on-year increase in total passengers handled at Indian airports reaching 37.6 crore in FY24.

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream of bringing air travel to common people, the Indian government has been trying to increase the number of operational airports in India. The Noida International Airport or the Jewar airport is being built to increase India's air travel capacity in the National Capital Region (NCR) of India and to ease the air traffic at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Set to be Asia's largest, Jewar airport will be spread across a mighty 5,000 hectares. It is approximately 75 kms away from Delhi. The airport is expected to launch its operations starting April 2025.

Test Flights

After the second round of trial operations at the Noida International Airport, the data will be sent to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) by December 20. These test runs will assess the preparedness of the airport. A clearance from the DGCA is expected around March, 2025, following the trials which is the same time that the airport will apply for aerodrome licensing.

The airport will be developed in four phases. Currently, work for the first phase is nearing completion. After the completion of this phase, the airport will have a capacity to handle 1.2 crore passengers annually.
