US President Donald Trump has appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio as acting administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USIAD), ANI reported.

US's Stance On USAID

The news came hours after Elon Musk said he is working to shut down the irreparable USAID.

The US government said in a post on X that USAID's activities were under review.

The idea is to make sure that USAID's policies are in line with America First Policy.

Who Is Marco Rubio?

Marco Rubio was born in Miami, Florida in 1971 to Cuban immigrants. His father worked as a banquet bartender, while his mother split time as a stay-at-home mom and hotel maid.

Rubio earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a law degree from the University of Miami School of Law. He and his wife, Jeanette, have four children.

In 2010, he won a seat in the US Senate, wherein he served as Senator till 2025.

Rubio has been a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

Rubio also has played a central role in shaping US foreign policy toward Latin America. He sponsored legislation requiring sanctions against human rights abusers in Venezuela and imposing sanctions against members of the Cuban regime.

Prior to becoming a US senator, Rubio served as a city commissioner in West Miami, Florida, and as speaker of Florida’s House of Representatives.
