A United States military plane which was carrying deported Indian migrants has landed in Amritsar on Wednesday morning.
There were a total of 205 Indian nationals in the C-17 aircraft which departed from San Antonio, Texas, around 3 am IST on Tuesday. Donald trump, the US President after winning the US elections is on the verge of a crack down on illegal immigration. This is why illegal immigrants are being deported from the US using military planes, even though the use of military planes for deportation from the US is uncommon.
The Trump administration is pursuing this move despite the fact that it is not a cost-effective one. According to a Reuters report, the comparative cost of a military plane as opposed to a usual charter plane used to carry out illegal immigrants is "more than five times" the cost of a "one-way first class ticket on America Airlines".
Why Is Trump Deporting Immigrants In Military Planes?
Trump is doing this as this move stands for strong symbolism. Trump has also often used terms such as "aliens" and "criminals" for illegal immigrants, who have "invaded" America. This sends a strong message on a global scale that America shall be intolerant for "crimes" like this.
"For the first time in history, we are locating and loading illegal aliens into military aircraft and flying them back to the places from which they came… We’re respected again, after years of laughing at us like we’re stupid people," Trump had recently said while speaking to Republican lawmakers.
Deportation is a subject that is treated with a sense of urgency in the Trump administration as detaining them would give them time to appeal.
Earlier in December the United States President had said, "I don’t want them sitting in camp for the next 20 years. I want them out, and the countries have got to take them back."
