Salesforce To Cut 1000 Roles, Says Report - What We Know So Far
Salesforce’s latest job cuts and hiring strategy signal a major transition towards AI-powered growth.

Cloud computing giant Salesforce is laying off over 1,000 employees while simultaneously hiring workers to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) division, according to a report by Bloomberg News.
The affected employees will have the opportunity to apply for other roles within the company, but it remains unclear which departments are impacted. Salesforce has yet to respond to requests for comment.
Ongoing Layoffs at Salesforce
This isn't the first round of job cuts at Salesforce. In January 2024, the Wall Street Journal reported that around 700 employees were laid off. Later, in July 2024, Bloomberg reported another 300 job cuts. The company had 72,682 employees as of January 31, 2024, according to its latest annual report.
Salesforce is cutting more than 1,000 jobs as it simultaneously hires workers to sell new artificial intelligence products, as reported by Bloomberg.
AI Driving Workforce Changes
Salesforce is aggressively shifting focus to AI-driven products, particularly Agentforce, its AI-powered virtual assistant platform. CEO Marc Benioff revealed that Salesforce had closed over 1,000 paid deals for Agentforce, highlighting the growing demand for AI solutions.
Benioff also stated on the '20VC with Harry Stebbings' podcast that the company’s engineering team has seen a 30% productivity boost due to AI tools, leading to a hiring freeze for software engineers in 2024. He explained that this efficiency gain has reduced the need for additional engineering hires, further reflecting Salesforce’s shift towards AI automation.
Salesforce: Upcoming Earnings
Salesforce is set to report its quarterly earnings on February 26, where investors will be watching closely to see how the company’s AI-driven strategy is affecting its financial performance.
Salesforce’s latest job cuts and hiring strategy signal a major transition towards AI-powered growth. While AI-driven efficiency is helping the company scale, the impact on displaced workers and the future of traditional tech jobs remain key concerns.
