Fiscal Deficit- a key watched parameter has been estimated at 4.4 per cent of GDP in FY26, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced while delivering her 8th Budget.
The pegged fiscal deficit for FY26 is lower than estimated 4.5 per cent to be achieved by FY26. This reflects government’s laser focused approach on fiscal consolidation and adhering to fiscal consolidation glide path.
As far as the FY25 is concerned, as far as revised estimates are concerned fiscal deficit for FY25 has come in 4.8 per cent which is also lower than budget estimate of 4.9 per cent. The lower fiscal deficit numbers are reflection of government’s commitment for fiscal consolidation.
She also said that the government is committed for the reduction of centres debt as per centage of GDP going forward. “ Centres debt as per centage of GDP is on a declining path,” she added while delivering her budget speech.
