Budget 2025: Is Stock Market Open Today?

The Indian stock market usually closed on weekends, will remain open for trading today, February 1, as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to present the Union Budget for the eighth time. The finance minister also presented the Economic Survey on January 31 ahead of the budget.

Special Trading Session for Union Budget

Stock markets sometimes operate on Saturdays for key events like the Budget. The National Stock Exchange ( NSE ) confirmed that trading hours will be from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM, with the BSE Indices calculated as usual. Similar special trading sessions were held on February 1, 2020, and February 28, 2015, when Budgets were presented on Saturdays.

Market Rally Ahead Of Budget

The stock market ended positively: Sensex gained 540 points, and Nifty around 23,450. On Friday, markets surged as investors anticipated a pro-growth Budget. The Sensex gained 741 points, closing at 77,500.57, while the Nifty rose 258.90 points, settling at 23,508.40. At its peak, Sensex touched 77,605.96, and Nifty reached 23,546.80.

Stock Market Performance

On January 31, the Sensex gained 540 pts and the Nifty was around 23,450. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) saw a 4.31% rise after reporting a 14% increase in quarterly profit to Rs 3,359 crore, driven by strong operational revenue.

Economic Survey Overview

The Economic Survey highlighted concerns over high stock market valuations, warning that a potential correction in the US markets could impact Indian stocks, especially with rising participation from young investors post-COVID.
