Union Budget 2025: AI In Medical? 'Yes' Says Dr Prathap C Reddy Of Apollo Hospitals
He added saying, "this budget has sentenced India's position as a global healthcare leader."

The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Union Budget 2025-26 in the Parliament on February 1, making several announcements for the medical sector along with a magnanimous allocation of Rs 99,859 crore for the sector.
While appreciating the advancements in the medical sector and commenting on the Union Budget 2025-26, Dr Prathap C Reddy, Founder of Apollo Hospitals, said that the 75,000 additional medical seats means more new medical colleges and centres for excellence in an AI driven medical system.
He added saying, "this budget has sentenced India's position as a global healthcare leader."
According to Reddy, India is set to become the preferred medical destination for international patients, thanks to the streamlined visa process and the Indian healthcare system is increasingly becoming poised to serve both India and the world.
The Finance Minister has allocated Rs 99,858.56 crores for developing, maintaining and improving the country's healthcare system, which is a 9.78% increase from Rs 90,958.63 crore in FY25.
Additionally, the government has also allocated Rs 2,445 crore for PLI for the pharmaceutical industry.
Further, Sitharaman has also made special budgetary allocations for the development of 200 daycare centres for oncological patients and Reddy has appreciated the same.
According to Reddy, this will bring "specialized treatment closer to the people, improving early diagnosis and better patient outcomes."
He further appreciated the fact that "essential medicines for rare diseases, cancer and chronic conditions will now be exempt from customs duty," thereby lowering the cost of life-saving treatment.
